Never think that God's delays are God's denials. Hold on; hold fast; hold out. Patience is genius. --- George-Louis Leclerc de Buffon

Sundays Sermon Podcast

Calvary Chapel Kampala
  • 1 Peter 1 "Our Living Hope"
"We all remember Peter, that disciple that opened his mouth too much with Jesus. Peter later, however, because one of the chief pillars of the early church. Peter and Paul were the two major apostles in bringing the gospel to the Jews (Peter) and Gentiles (Paul). The themes are hope, holiness, and suffering. This letter was mainly to bring encouragement and renewed motivation to live in Godliness no matter what the circumstances"
  • Nehemiah 13 "Cleaning House"
"When you clean your house do you only have to do it once and then it remains clean? No. There is dirt around here and messy people. It takes a continual maintenance and cleaning. When you take a bath do you only have to do it the first time and then you don't have to bathe anymore? No, we get dirty living in this world. We need to keep on cleaning or we stink and become grotesque. The people had made many promises in chapter 10 of what they were going to do for God and how they were going to live. Unfortunately, when Nehemiah went back to report to the King the people had turned quickly back to the sin and impurity that they had said they would not do. Through God's Word, and spiritual leadership, God's people were going to clean house again. This chapter is about cleaning that which was rebuilt. It is a maintenance process to examine your life, family, church, and leadership to make sure they are according to the standard of purity that God has shown us in His Word. "
  • Nehemiah 11-12 "Rebuilding Together"
"The work of rebuilding is not something we can do alone. We need God obviously, but we also need one another. There are a few lasting lessons that we can take with us about rebuilding our lives. We are given a reminder of those lessons in these final chapters. The people were now right with God, and together they continued in the day-to-day decisions that made this rebuilding last. Let us be reminded that: Rebuilding Together Needs People. Rebuilding Together Needs Praise. Rebuilding Together Needs Provisions."
II Chronicles 30

2 Chronicles Chapters 30 “Return to the House of the Lord”

  1. I) Reasons to Return (30:1-12)

  1. 1) You’ve Been Away a Long Time (Verses 1-5)
    1. This is an invitation to God’s people who have been distant from God’s house or backslidden (1)
    2. There may be excuses as to why you haven’t been coming (2-3)
  • The priests have not consecrated themselves?
  1. “The prescribed manner” God had given us a prescription for success: coming to church and remembering the Passover Lamb. (4-5)

& Hebrews 10:24-25 “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”

& 1 Corinthians 11:24-25 “and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said,  "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me." 25  In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."

  1. 2) God is Gracious and Merciful (Verses 6-9)
    1. The message was that there is only one place to find safety and security—with the Lord. (6-8)
  • So why would we want to risk our lives and our souls out in the world which is Satan’s domain?

& See 1 Corinthians 5:1-5

& 1 John 5:19 “We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.”

  1. Here we can see God’s character. He is compassionate, gracious, and merciful. (9a)

& See Lam 3:22-26

  1. God will not turn His face from you if you turn to Him (9b)

& John 6:37 “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.”

  1. II) Rejection when Returning (30:10-12)

  1. 1) People Will Laugh and Mock (Verses 10-12)
    1. The world calls it foolishness; we call it the power of God!

& 1 Corinthians 1:18 “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

  1. Pilgrim’s progress. Pilgrims’ friends family neighbors mocked, cried, and called for him to return. He put his fingers in his ears and ran on crying, “Life! Life! Eternal life!”

  1. III) Results of Returning (30:13-27)

  1. 1) Idols will be destroyed (Verses 13-14)
    1. Attending church and getting involved will be a great tool in the destroying of idols in your life.

& 2 Corinthians 6:16-18 “And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people."  17 Therefore "Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you." 18 'I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty."

  1. 2) You will be cleansed and healed (Verses 15-20)
    1. The Passover speaks of the greatest cleansing—the blood of the Lamb (15a)

& 1 Corinthians 5:7 “Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.”

& 1 Peter 1:18-19 “knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”

  1. Cleansing comes as we become ashamed of our sins (15b)
  • Even as Christians we can have a cleansing of sinful conduct and behavior, but we must be humbled and ashamed of the sins that are a part of our lives

& James 4:7-10 “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

  1. Jesus is our high priest who sanctifies us (16-20)
  • The blood of Jesus has cleansed us from the guilt of sin
  • Jesus uses His Word to cleanse Christians on an ongoing basis

& Ephesians 5:25-27 “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.”

& John 17:17 “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”

  • God sees our heart

  1. 3) Joy will be restored (Verses 21-27)
    1. Is going to church boring and dull? It shouldn’t be! (21-22)

& Psalms 84:10 “For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.”

  • Note: there is music and teaching in a joyful church
  1. They wanted more. This will be our experience—we can’t get enough of God’s goodness in the house of the Lord! (23-27)
