"Our circumstances are not an accurate reflection of God's goodness. Whether life is good or bad, God's goodness, rooted in His character, is the same." -- Helen Grace Lescheid

Sundays Sermon Podcast

Calvary Chapel Kampala
  • 1 Peter 1 "Our Living Hope"
"We all remember Peter, that disciple that opened his mouth too much with Jesus. Peter later, however, because one of the chief pillars of the early church. Peter and Paul were the two major apostles in bringing the gospel to the Jews (Peter) and Gentiles (Paul). The themes are hope, holiness, and suffering. This letter was mainly to bring encouragement and renewed motivation to live in Godliness no matter what the circumstances"
  • Nehemiah 13 "Cleaning House"
"When you clean your house do you only have to do it once and then it remains clean? No. There is dirt around here and messy people. It takes a continual maintenance and cleaning. When you take a bath do you only have to do it the first time and then you don't have to bathe anymore? No, we get dirty living in this world. We need to keep on cleaning or we stink and become grotesque. The people had made many promises in chapter 10 of what they were going to do for God and how they were going to live. Unfortunately, when Nehemiah went back to report to the King the people had turned quickly back to the sin and impurity that they had said they would not do. Through God's Word, and spiritual leadership, God's people were going to clean house again. This chapter is about cleaning that which was rebuilt. It is a maintenance process to examine your life, family, church, and leadership to make sure they are according to the standard of purity that God has shown us in His Word. "
  • Nehemiah 11-12 "Rebuilding Together"
"The work of rebuilding is not something we can do alone. We need God obviously, but we also need one another. There are a few lasting lessons that we can take with us about rebuilding our lives. We are given a reminder of those lessons in these final chapters. The people were now right with God, and together they continued in the day-to-day decisions that made this rebuilding last. Let us be reminded that: Rebuilding Together Needs People. Rebuilding Together Needs Praise. Rebuilding Together Needs Provisions."
II Chronicles 28-29

2 Chronicles 28-29 “From Darkness to Light – Ahaz and Hezekiah”

  1. I. The Dark Life of Sin (Chapter 28)

  1. 1) The Summery of Ahaz’ sin (Verses 1-4)
  • This is Ahaz’ list. I hope you don’t have a list of “today’s” sins.

  1. 2) The Consequences of sin (Verses 5-21)
    1. Defeat and Bondage (5-8)

& Romans 6:16 “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?”

  1. But there is still hope (9-15)
  • God will always be for you if you are his child, even if you find yourself suffering and in bondage to from the consequences of sin.
  • God shows mercy and grace
  1. Mercy because they didn’t get permanent captivity and death
  2. Grace because they got clothes food transportation and a return home!
  • This only happened because they were humbled and torn from their sin (See Verse 19)

& Psalms 51:17 “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart — These, O God, You will not despise.”

  1. Turning back to God is your only option (16-21)
  • Ahaz’ trouble increased
  1. His problems were multiplying from every direction because of his sin
  • Ahaz tried to find alternate ways out of the mess. He called on the Assyrians, but the Assyrians only distressed him (See Verse 20)
  1. When we look to other people or things as our solution they add to the distress
    1. Example: giving money to get out of a curse, you end up with the problems “curse” and now you don’t have money!
    2. Example:  witchcraft, now demonic influences are involved
    3. Example: Friends lying for you, now your friends are sinning and you worry if they are going to tell.
    4. When we look to other people or things for hope we always lose something (He lost the treasures from the house of the Lord)

  1. 3) The wrong response to sin – increased unfaithfulness (Verses 22-25)
    1. Many people get ever worse when they refuse to repent and return to God.
  • But turning away from God will be your ruin (See Verse 23)
  1. Angry at God?! Sadly, many turn away from God in anger, even though the tragedy that has befallen them is a result of sin. The problem came as a result of either their sin or original sin, but not God.
  • They will shut the door to the house of God, unknowingly shutting the door to the best life possible.

  1. 4) The ultimate end of sin – Death (Verses 26-27)

& Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

  1. II. Walking in the Light (Chapter 29)

  1. 1) Cleansing (Verses 1-19)
    1. Cleanse God’s house (Key Verse 5)
  • You must be cleansed

& 2 Corinthians 7:1 “Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

  • The church must be cleansed

& Ephesians 5:25-27 “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.”

  • The rubbish must be removed
  1. Get that stuff out of your life.
  • This is a holy place

& 1 Corinthians 3:17 “If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.”

  1. 2) The Life in the Light (Verses 20-35)
    1. Not only must we cleanse out the old but we must now walk in the new
    2. Remembering Jesus’ sacrifice (20-24)

& Hebrews 9:12-14 “Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

  1. Worship (25-30)
  2. Giving (31-33)
  • We don’t give to get a Godly life, we give as a result of a Godly life
  1. Serving (34-35)
  2. 3) God had prepared His people – this is God’s work (Verses 35b-36)
    1. And He can do it immediately! Are you ready? Are you willing?
