"He who loses money, loses much; he who loses a friend, loses much more; he who loses faith, loses all." -- Eleanor Roosevelt

Sundays Sermon Podcast

Calvary Chapel Kampala
  • 1 Peter 1 "Our Living Hope"
"We all remember Peter, that disciple that opened his mouth too much with Jesus. Peter later, however, because one of the chief pillars of the early church. Peter and Paul were the two major apostles in bringing the gospel to the Jews (Peter) and Gentiles (Paul). The themes are hope, holiness, and suffering. This letter was mainly to bring encouragement and renewed motivation to live in Godliness no matter what the circumstances"
  • Nehemiah 13 "Cleaning House"
"When you clean your house do you only have to do it once and then it remains clean? No. There is dirt around here and messy people. It takes a continual maintenance and cleaning. When you take a bath do you only have to do it the first time and then you don't have to bathe anymore? No, we get dirty living in this world. We need to keep on cleaning or we stink and become grotesque. The people had made many promises in chapter 10 of what they were going to do for God and how they were going to live. Unfortunately, when Nehemiah went back to report to the King the people had turned quickly back to the sin and impurity that they had said they would not do. Through God's Word, and spiritual leadership, God's people were going to clean house again. This chapter is about cleaning that which was rebuilt. It is a maintenance process to examine your life, family, church, and leadership to make sure they are according to the standard of purity that God has shown us in His Word. "
  • Nehemiah 11-12 "Rebuilding Together"
"The work of rebuilding is not something we can do alone. We need God obviously, but we also need one another. There are a few lasting lessons that we can take with us about rebuilding our lives. We are given a reminder of those lessons in these final chapters. The people were now right with God, and together they continued in the day-to-day decisions that made this rebuilding last. Let us be reminded that: Rebuilding Together Needs People. Rebuilding Together Needs Praise. Rebuilding Together Needs Provisions."

Nehemiah Chapters 12-13 “Further Recommitment”

Last week: recommitment to the lord, recommitment to mission work

  1. 1) Recommitted to the House of God (Chapter 12)
    1. a) Leadership structure (1-26)
      1. Sadly, many Christians have departed from God’s word and thereby depart from the organization structure for the church.
        1. (a) Hebrews 13:17 “Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.”
        2. (b) 1 Timothy 5:17 “Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine.”

  1. b) Dedication and purification (27-42)
    1. The dedication and purification included worship and praise.
      1. Worship and praise is a great time to get your heart right and rededicate yourself to the Lord.

  1. c) Joy was heard (43)
    1. When we function according to God’s word our joy will be seen all over the world, and many will come to the Lord.

  1. d) Some were willing to help out and take responsibility in God’s house (44-47)
    1. Pray about opportunities to serve at Calvary Chapel Kampala

  1. 2) Recommitted to Cleansing (Chapter 13)
    1. a) Separating the mixed multitude (1-3)
      1. The mixed multitude is a cursed multitude
        1. But even with our stupid mistakes God turns the curse into a blessing
      2. When they heard the law they separated.
        1. People live in sin when they do not live in God’s word
          1. (a) Psalms 119:9 “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.”

  1. b) Cleansing the wicked leaders (4-14)
    1. Eliashib and Tobiah had an alliance to get personal gain from God’s house
      1. Instead of providing for the things of God’s house, they provided for themselves
        1. (a) Ezekiel 34:2-3 "Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD to the shepherds:"Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks? 3 You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool; you slaughter the fatlings, but you do not feed the flock.”
        2. The only thing to do was to throw them out, cleanse, and replace them with the right things.
        3. This is what Uganda needs to do. The bad pastors will never leave if people keep going to their churches ignorantly.
      2. The Levites were being neglected
        1. The people were giving to these wicked leaders instead of into the storehouse.

  1. c) Cleansing Greed (15-22)
    1. The Sabbath was a day of rest, but God’s people were disobeying his commandment to make more money.
      1. Don’t neglect the things of God in order to make more money.
        1. (a) 1 Timothy 6:10 “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

  1. d) Cleansing Relationships (23-31)
    1. The principle here is that God doesn’t want you to get into a serious relationship with an unbeliever.
      1. (a) 2 cor 16:14-18
      2. There are examples of people who have done this
        1. Solomon is the best example of what can happen because of unequal yoking
        2. Plus pastor Brian might pull out your hair!

Conclusion from verse 31: We want God to remember us for good for the things that we have accomplished for Him.
